My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge #43 - A+ Friendship

It's very quiet around here today.  My hubby is golfing and my DD is watching her BFF run in the state cross-country meet.  Me, I am very quiet - I have completely lost my voice.  Between the last two games of the World Series (GO CARDS!) and the 45 degree temp I endured watching my DD cheer at the high school football game last night, my voice had had enough.  Well, perhaps I over used it just slightly during Game 6. Okay - enough of me silently whining. . .

I joined Kim and the My Favorite Things crew for their Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  I really love this sketch. . .

I know I've mentioned before what a HUGE fan I am of the MFT a la mode stamps.  Those perfect-for-every-occassion, skinny girls in their cute clothes, make me very happy.  It's very obvious to me that the Kim and crew were playing favorites this week - I mean seriously - look at that a la mode only panel on the right!  I followed their hidden desire and chose the a la mode You Rule! Stamp Set.

My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge #42 - Go Team!

I had a wonderful few minutes of stamping time this week!  It was heaven!  I actually had the time to join the girls from My Favorite Things for their Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  Here is the sketch:

And here is my creation. . .

I used the MFT a la modes - All Star stamp set and stamped the image and sentiment in Memento Black Tuxedo ink.  I colored the image with Copics and then used MFT Die-Namics Banner Day Die to cut the pennant.  Since my daughter's high school team is the bulldogs, I grabbed my MFT Purrrfect Treat Stamp Set which just happens to have two paw prints which I used to stamp the pennant and her t-shirt. 

I replaced the square panel on the sketch with a glittered and paper pieced football.  I cut two tabs from the MFT Die-Namics Rounded Banner Trio and layered them for the sentiment panel.

It was so much fun to get back in the stamping groove!  I hope to be back soon!

Taylored Expressions Blast from the Past Blog Hop October 2011! (Thank You for Being Patient)

Nothing like having Firefox crash and take your entire post down in flames. Oh well, let's try this again. . .

Good morning friends!  Welcome to the Taylored Expressions Blast from the Past Blog Hop for October.  I must admit I am bit of a Halloween/Fall junkie. I have always attributed this to having an October birthday and my profesionally diagnosed addiction to candy corn.  That being said, when Taylor announced the theme for this month, "Trick or Sweet", I couldn't wait to play along!  Since I'm a bit late with the post, let's get to the first project, shall we?

I started with blank triple layer chipboard letters. . .

Using the solid textured cardstock from Taylor's Key Ingredients Subscription, I traced each letter and cut them out. . .

I then covered the chipboard letters in glue and attached the cut outs, running a bead of glue all the way around the edges so the paper would not peel up.  I then inked up Taylor's Stitched Plaid Background stamp. . .

And stamped the letters in a sort of "messy" fashion. . .

I applied a couple of layers of Mod Podge and while they were drying, I cut strips of burnt orange tulle and tan raffia to make backgrounds for these darling fabric flowers I purchased on Etsy. After everything dried, I attached the letters together with ribbon and, Voila!. . .

For my next project I started with this darling pumpkin chalkboard/magnet board. . .

I stamped images from Taylored Expressions Trick or Sweet I and Taylored Expressions Trick or Sweet II.  I colored them using Copic markers and highlighted areas with the Copic Spica markers. .

I then attached adhesive magnets to the back. . .

Taylored Expressions Blast from the Past Blog Hop. . .Just Around the Corner!

From Cards to Locker Signs. . .

While becoming a "cheer Mom" was not neccessarily a job I thought I was destined for, as a wise woman once said, "It is, what it is."  My card making days, already noticibly absent by the two of you that read my blog, are officially on hold during the cheer season*.  You see, I have been tasked (or perhaps my anal retentiveness volunteered) to make the locker signs for the squad this season.  Behold, I bring you the "Take State" locker signs. . .

These pennats are made of stiffened felt and measure 9" x 18".  All of the letters, stickers and rhinestones were hand applied by your's truly and each one of the picture rosettes were cut using my Cuttlebug and Nesties.  The ribbon streamers are highlighted by a sticker ribbon that says "Casica Take State".  Long gone are the days of construction paper and Sharpie markers.  There's a new "Cheeriff" in town! :) 

Wait 'til you see what I have cooked up for Nationals. . .

*The Cheer Season begins with tryouts the first week of June, followed by a month of practices and camp.  We have only July off in the summer.  Practices begin again in August and don't stop until State the first part of October.  A short break after State followed by a grueling November & December until Nationals in January.  Cheer practices alone account for 15 hours outside of school and my DD spends an additional three to five hours with a private tumbling coach.  It's worth it though!  We were placed as the runner-up at Regionals (we scored 259 and the winner scored 260) and took 3rd out of 19 teams after moving to Class 5A this year.  We were the smallest squad in 5A and only five points separated us from the State Champions. Needless to say - next year will be AWESOME!  So proud of our girls!
